Art 2 Final Portfolio

1) The perspective project was the most successful because it turned out exactly how I imagined it would. It was the most difficult project but it was well worth the frustration. The theme is busy streets and I got the idea from streets in New York City. New York is a very busy and crammed place and I knew it would be fun and I could be creative to make a city. The technique of shading worked well because if the sun is shining on a certain side on a building, it would cast a shadow down onto the street. Also, it shows how some buildings can be more worn out than others.

2) This project was to show repetition which I showed through the flower petals. The petals start out redish toward the center of the flower then turns into a darker purple near the end. There were many obstacles I faced throughout this project. It was very difficult to decide which colors to make the petals and how to make the grass look textured and realistic. I worked through the petal obstacle by just messing around with the water colors and decided that red and purple looked good together. A challenge in this project that made me a better artist was the fading in the grass and petals.

3)These two projects were perspective and whats the point of love. The elements and details in these projects made me a better artist because it forced me to take many risks that I wouldn't normally take. The perspective project made me become more creative because I had to imagine the shadows from the sun that cast off of the buildings. The what's the point of love project helped improve my shading techniques and skills because the whole project is based on shading. I also had to be very patient with both projects because if I tried to rush through the shading, the project would turn out badly and could possibly ruin the project. Overall I believe both projects benefited me as an artist.

4) I loved the new way of teaching that you introduced this semester. It helped me become a better artist because I had to think of clever ideas for each topic for the project. The project of What's the point was very difficult to decide on and then I thought after my life and decided on what's the point of love. I got the idea from thinking of past relationships and knowing that not all things end well. I suggest keeping this way of teaching because it lets each student define themselves and be unique with their artwork. Also, it would let you learn something about each student through their artwork.
